what is mission?

Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. and be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (matthew 28:18-20)
the word "missionary" can bring up images of people giving up everything to go and live in africa telling a small caniballistc tribe about Jesus whilst keeping a wary eye on the cooking pot. in fact mission is something that all Christians are called to do by Jesus himself - what is sometimes called the great comission (the bible verse above). we are called to tell people about the good news of Jesus wherever we are. this can mean going out to some far flung country but it can also mean being a Christian presence in our school, college or workplace.
