word on the web: psalm 57:1-3
Today's passage: Psalm 57 v 1-3
Be merciful to me, God; be merciful to me because I come to you for
protection.
Let me hide under the shadow of your wings until the trouble has
passed.
I cry out to God Most High, to the God who does everything for me.
He sends help from heaven and saves me.
He punishes those who chase me.
God sends me his love and truth.
Notes
An American Christian comedian when asked, 'What is life?' said life was taxes, a boss to put up with, family to feed, clothe, and provide for. Life is a series of emotions, with joys, sorrows, frustrations, tiredness, and struggles. He continued, "Christ came that we may have life more abundant." He said it in laughter, but with truth.
It amazes me that people can believe that becoming a Christian makes the hard things disappear and life easier. The truth is it can seem to get harder. Young people and adults alike have told me they can't get on with the Bible because it isn't relevant to them. For new Christians trying to engage with the Word, they may be forgiven in
thinking that the majority of the Bible and its stories are special cases, that it was just at the time with that person.
Someone once asked me, 'Where does the Bible fit into my everyday life?' My first reaction was to explain that the entire Bible is relevant, but he didn't have a spare six weeks. So I showed him the Psalms. They are my everyday book. I can always find a psalm that matches my situation or emotion. As we read today's verses, the
question is asked, who do you turn to when things get difficult? Who do you trust?
Printed on American money is the phrase, "In God We Trust," yet so many don't heed that advice. They trust in money, possessions, alcohol, drugs, or perhaps they simply don't trust. If they would make room for Christ they would find there is more to life. Yes, life will be hard, but Jesus is harder. He is a rock. Understand that God has a plan for you, a purpose for your life to fulfil. Trust Him.
Prayer
Dear God, when our lives don't seem to go as smoothly as we want, help us to trust you and to remember that you have a plan for our lives, a purpose to fulfil. Give us strength and guidance today and everyday. In Jesus name, Amen.
