new to ak
alive and kicking meet every sunday (with a very few exceptions) at the hut, the youth centre behind edgecliff high school (up castle street). the evening runs from 7pm until 9pm and we try and finish as on time as possible!
the welcome pack is available to the right.
from about 7.30pm, we usually carry on with some sort of game as a whole group before breaking for drinks and (if you're lucky), biscuits. after that we break down into 2 groups to look at the next part of the current theme (check out the programme for details. the more activity based group (usually in the main hall) is most suitable of you've not been before, whilst in the sixth form centre is a more discussion based group. if you're not sure which one to go for, have a chat to one of the leaders.
we round the evening off with a short prayer time - nothing scary, just a quick time to share anything we're worried or happy about with each other and with God.
during the summer holidays, things are slightly different - if the weather's good we usually go across to the school playing fields for games, sports or other activities.
socials are usually great times to get to know people better in a friendly and non-threatening atmosphere. no scary stuff, just fun!
ak prayer board - if you've got things to pray for, just write them on one of the bits of paper provided and pin it to the board. we'll share all the prayer requests at the end of each night and they'll get sent out to a team of people who pray for alive and kicking on a regular basis.
ak library - (now located in the ak cupboard) an ever-growing choice of good Christian books to borrow and read - see a book you'd like to borrow, just ask.
programmes - copies of the current ak programme.
consent forms - for socials which take place somewhere other than the hut.
leaflets - there's usally masses of other leaflets lying around with information about events, holidays, charities and more. have a look and see what you can find!
the prayer board is also available online on the alive and kicking facebook group, along with a discussion and question area - follow the link above right. please note that we need to know who you are before you can join the alive and kicking facebook group.
you might see people wearing alive and kicking t-shirts or hoodies - don't worry, it's not a uniform but if you would like one to tell people about ak everytime they see you then just ask - £16 for hoodies, £7 for t-shirts and £9 for skinny-fit t-shirts.
if you want to take one of the bibles that we use home with you then please do - there's no charge. if you want to write your name in the front and bring it along to ak when you came, even better!
finally, remember to enjoy yourself! any questions, just ask a leader - they don't bite!

socials
every few weeks we have a social event - sometimes at the hut, sometimes somewhere else. if it's somewhere else, you'll usually need 2 things: a consent form for the event and a general contact details form. please note that you only have to fill one contact details form in (unless your contact details change) but you'll need a new consent form for each event and return it the week before to gurantee your place.socials are usually great times to get to know people better in a friendly and non-threatening atmosphere. no scary stuff, just fun!
