communication policy

all email and instant messenger (including msn) communication with ak leaders will be recorded by the leader. this copy will be kept for a minimum of 2 years. any communication which causes concern will be copied to another leader. video conferencing via instant messenger, mobile phone or otherwise is not an appropriate form of communication between an ak leader and young people unless it takes place in a public place with additional leaders present. if a situation arises where the young person or leader is uncomfortable with the communication occurring it will cease immediately.

in all communication, ak leaders will not guarantee confidentiality, however they will not share information beyond what is necessary to protect the best interests of the young people and leaders. communication with individual leaders may be shared amongst the leadership team but it will not go further (except in general terms which do not identify an individual or where deemed necessary in accordance with the child protection policy).
